Burger King facing class action litigation over vegan burger

It is common for companies to do what they can to appeal to various consumers. In some cases, restaurants may begin offering new options that cater to individuals with certain dietary restrictions, such as consumers who are vegetarian or vegan. However, class action litigation can result if those consumers believe that a company has been misleading customers.

Florida readers may be interested in a class action case against Burger King. The fast food company has begun offering a meat-free burger option known as the Impossible Whopper. The plant-based substitute for meat comes from Impossible Foods Inc., which offers various vegetarian and vegan meat substitute options. However, the problem vegans and vegetarians apparently have with Burger King reportedly relates to how the restaurants cook their Impossible Whoppers.

One individual, who is a vegan, filed a claim against the company because the vegan burgers are cooked on the same grill as regular meat products. As a result, the vegan patties become covered in meat byproduct, which makes them no longer vegan. The lawsuit claims that Burger King has been misleading consumers. It was unclear what damages the class action suit may be pursuing.

Disgruntled customers can make serious problems for companies. As this case shows, a class action lawsuit could come about if consumers believe that a company has not been representing their actions accurately. If Florida businesses are facing this type of issue, company owners may want to ensure that they understand their legal options for handling class action litigation and mitigating the negative effects of such a case.
